“Thanks for the medal, but I didn’t play in Russia,” he told Sportske Novosti.

The 30-year-old was sent home by Coach Zlatko Dalic for refusing to come on as a substitute during the Vatreni’s World Cup opener against Nigeria.

However, it is not clear whether his was an act of protest against Dalic or a show of respect to his international teammates, given he did not make any appearances in Russia.
