Ricky Kaka says his decision to leave Milan has nothing to do with the club’s absence from the Champions League.

The Rossoneri endured a disappointing Serie A campaign last time out, failing to qualify for Europe and leading to the sackings of both Max Allegri and Clarence Seedorf.

However, speaking to Milan Channel, the Brazilian playmaker insisted he is happy to have returned for a second stint at San Siro.

“It’s been a difficult year for everyone, but for me to come back to Milan and reach 300 matches wearing this shirt, as well as reaching 100 goals, has been great,” Kaka said.

“My choice to leave is not linked to the fact Milan aren’t in the Champions League, it’s for a different kind of project.

“I have taken my holidays to think about it, I’ve always said I wanted to play in America one day and now I have reached an agreement to play there.

“Now I will go on loan to Sao Paulo and then I will begin my adventure in America.

“Orlando City are a new team with a good project and they have a Brazilian owner. I am happy to be going back to Sao Paulo, it is a great feeling for me.”

Kaka also said he will never again wear a number 22 shirt, out of respect to Milan’s support.

“I won’t wear the number 22 anymore, I wanted to leave this as a sign to the Milan fans. In Brazil I think I will wear the number eight, then in America the number 10.”
