According to reports on Thursday afternoon, Juventus are in contact with defender Daniele Rugani and his representatives over a new contract extension, which could be finalised before the end of the calendar year.

However, he is set to be offered a lower salary than the one he currently earns.

The 29-year-old has been on the Old Lady’s books for eight years now, and is said to be viewed as a relatively senior figure in the dressing room these days.

According to an exclusive from TMW, the relevant parties have been in conversation over a potential renewal since the summer transfer window, and the common desire is to have an agreement wrapped up by the end of December.

Thursday’s update notes that Rugani is seen as a trusted, reliable option for Massimiliano Allegri. He was also reportedly wanted by sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli while he was still at Napoli

Juventus are hoping to reduce Rugani’s base salary, from a current figure of €3.5m to an estimated sum of €2.5m, but that will be offset by a series of appearance and performance-related bonuses.
