Juventus have apologised after one of their youth team players was sent off for an offensive gesture during last night’s Coppa Italia Primavera Final against Napoli.

The Bianconeri won the trophy by beating Napoli 2-1 in extra time at the Stadio San Paolo on Tuesday evening.

Matteo Gerbaudo was celebrating the winning goal when he turned to the Napoli fans and made an offensive gesture.

It was spotted by the referee, who sent him off, and 17-year-old Gerbaudo has now been given a three-match ban.

“These things, especially in youth team football, should not be seen,” said Gianluca Pessotto, one of those responsible for the Juventus youth academy.

“It’s disappointing, as the players should focus only on their football and what happens on the field. Certain gestures really do not belong at Juve.”
