Former Genoa boss Ivan Juric insists he “would’ve taken the Hellas Verona job even in Serie B” after their promotion to the top flight.

They move up to Serie A along with Brescia and Lecce for the 2019-20 season, but sacked Coach Fabio Grosso on May 1 and dismissed Alfred Aglietti after he won the promotion play-offs.

“We had already reached an agreement, so I would’ve taken this job even in Serie B,” revealed Juric in his presentation Press conference.

“The moment Grosso was fired, the club contacted me and I immediately gave my word to the President. Considering how well and how relaxed the team was doing with Aglietti, I was afraid he’d get to keep the job!

“This is a new phase of my career and I am highly-motivated. The President wants a team that will do battle and that’s what we intend to give him.”

Juric could not have taken the role for the promotion play-offs, as he was still under contract with Genoa.

“I’d like to start out with a three-man defence, although at times we could shift to four. As for the attack, it depends on the players at my disposal. We know the characteristics we’re looking for and have clear ideas on the market. We’ll see what players we manage to get.

“I worked for a long time with Gian Piero Gasperini, both as a player and Coach, so that is where my vision of football starts from. If we don’t have the players with those characteristics, then we’ll adapt.

“The idea is to build from the back and attack with pace, not so much focusing on possession. This is a real challenge for us and if we achieve safety, it’ll be a great achievement. It’s very exciting and I am happy to be at Verona.

“I will try to win over the fans with good football and a clear identity. I work hard, but won’t have two training sessions a day, as one is more than enough.”
