“It’s going to be a very delicate match in the race for safety and we need to be concentrated, because it’ll have many individual duels around the field,” said the coach on the Verona website.

“Samp are strong on home turf and we need to start just as strong as them, if not stronger. Claudio Ranieri has largely sorted out their defensive problems, although in some games they weren’t at 100 per cent and let in plenty of goals.

“The Blucerchiati will be determined and eager to get a result. We’re missing quite a few players between bans and suspensions, so this is the time to get the team ethic working well, being solid and ready to overcome the obstacles.”

Verona have been harder hit than most by the Coronavirus outbreak, as their last two Serie A matches were postponed.

“We had been in a very positive period of form. Now we need to light the fire again after the break, just as we did against SPAL straight after the Winter break.”

Miguel Veloso is suspended in midfield, with Marco Davide Faraoni, Fabio Borini, Giampaolo Pazzini and Andrea Danzi injured.
