The Telegraph Merseyside reporter Chris Bascombe feels Roberto De Zerbi should not be underestimated as a possible replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool as ‘no opponent has won more praise’ from the German tactician than RDZ.

Klopp announced on Friday morning that he’d leave Anfield at the end of the season and although Reds legend Xabi Alonso appears to be the frontrunner for the job, De Zerbi is also in the conversation and seems to be one of the favourite candidates of Liverpool supporters.

Merseyside Football Reporter for Telegraph Media Group Chris Bascombe has explained why the Italian tactician should not be ruled out as a possible replacement for Klopp at Anfield next season.

“No opponent has won more praise from Klopp than Roberto De Zerbi,” said the English journalist who added owner Fenway Sports Group were informed about Klopp’s intention in November, so they have already started the search for Liverpool’s next coach.

De Zerbi coached Foggia, Palermo, Benevento and Sassuolo in Serie A before joining Shakhtar Donetsk in 2021 and Brighton in 2022.
