Italy and Chelsea star Jorginho dreams of winning the Ballon d’Or and the World Cup: ‘As a kid, I never thought I could get this far.’

The former Napoli and Hellas Verona playmaker is one of the main candidates to win the Ballo d’Or this year as he became European champion for club and country in 2020-21.

Although he is not the favourite, given that Leo Messi is tipped to win the title for the seventh time in his career, Jorginho still dreams of being named the best player of the year.

“It would be a dream, who has never dreamt about it? If you stop dreaming, it makes no sense to play football,” he told Sky Sport, as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“As a child, I never thought I’d get this far, but I dreamed and everything that happened was done to pursue my dream as a child.

“I am happy to make my family proud. And another dream could come true in the winter of 2022.”

Injured Verratti out against Switzerland and Man City

That’s when the Azzurri should play the World Cup.

Roberto Mancini’s side have not qualified for the competition yet and are set to face Switzerland in a key clash in November.

The Azzurri will be without Marco Verratti who has been ruled out for a month with a hip injury.

During the interview, Jorginho also rated his Chelsea teammates, but not for what they do on the pitch.

The 29-year-old picked N’Golo Kante as the most hilarious player in the dressing room, but also the worst dancer.

“I’ve never seen him dance, he doesn’t dance. He just stays there and says: ‘No, no, please no,” Jorginho said smiling.

Former Serie A stars Antonio Rudiger and Marcos Alonso listen to the best music, while Mateo Kovacic, a former Inter midfielder listen to the worst songs.

Jorginho was also asked who has the worst eating habits inside the Chelsea dressing room: “Perhaps [Callum] Hudson Hodoi and [Timo] Werner,” the Italian star admitted.
