The agent of Jorginho is hopeful the young Napoli talent will soon break into the Italian international set-up.

“I would like to see new boss Antonio Conte select him sooner or later,” Joao Santos noted. “But we know that a call-up depends on what you do with your club side.”

The 22-year-old was actually born in Brazil, but he does have an Italian passport given that he has relatives from the town of Lusiana in the Veneto region of Italy.

The former Verona player, who moved to Napoli in January, was selected by former Italian Under-21 boss Devis Mangia in November 2012 but didn’t feature against Spain at the time.

In July of this year, Jorginho made it clear that he wouldn’t hesitate in selecting Italy over his native Brazil when it comes to international football.

“So far I haven’t had to make a choice, because I haven’t received any offers,” Jorginho commented.

“I can say though that the Azzurri jersey is clearly on top of my preferences. I’d have no doubts, I would immediately accept a call from Coverciano.”

Conte’s Italy era begins tonight when the Azzurri will face Holland in an international friendly.
