The Club World Cup will be played in Japan from 10-20 December 2015, confirmed FIFA.

The top tournament for club sides all over the globe had already been hosted by Japan from 2005 to 2008, then again in 2011 and 2012.

It had been held in Morocco for the past two years, but has returned to Asia.

“This is a country with a proven track record when it comes to staging FIFA events, including six editions of the FIFA Club World Cup, which were all successful,” said FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke.

“We know it will be a superb setting once again for this annual competition with good-sized crowds and a wonderful atmosphere.

“The popularity and profile of the competition continues to build each year and this is sure to continue with the huge support shown within Japan.”

The tournament is between the club champions of all six confederations as well as Japan’s domestic champions.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid won the trophy in 2014.
