Coach Roberto Mancini is believed to have asked the club for wingers to complement his 4-2-3-1 system, and Januzaj would fit the bill as a young, low-cost option.

The Belgian international would also be eligible for European competition, with the English side not involved in continental football this term, meaning Januzaj would not be cup-tied.
