Italy’s women have been beaten 2-1 by Russia in their opening match of the European Championships.

Antonio Carbrini’s side faced the Russians in Rotterdam, but fell behind early on to a goal from Elena Danilova.

The striker received the ball from Elena Morozova, and caught Azzurri goalkeeper Chiara Marchitelli by surprise with an early shot.

Morozova then doubled the lead herself, finishing calmly after being played through one-on-one.

Italy largely relied on long throws into the box, but upped their game in the second half.
