The FIGC confirmed they have still not chosen Italy’s 2014 World Cup training base, though Mangaritiba is the favourite.

Cesare Prandelli travelled round Brazil to check on the potential choices for their ‘home’ during the tournament.

“We have until December 18 to confirm the Mangaritiba booking,” Federation director general Antonelli Valentini told Radio Due.

“Our functionaries in Brazil will meet with members of the local organising committee. We hope to have some definitive answers to our questions, although even then the problems can be resolved.”

Italy had already booked the Mangaritiba camp – officially called the Portobello Resort and Safari – before the World Cup draw.

They were placed in Group D along with Uruguay, England and Costa Rica, so their games will be in Manaus, Recife and Natal.

Mangaritiba is 105km away from Rio de Janeiro and is large enough to host all the families and children of the players.

The only problem is that it is two hours away from the airport, so Italy hope to use the Santa Cruz military airbase, which is 60km away.
