According to the latest reports from the Coverciano training ground, Giampiero Ventura is testing a 3-4-1-2 formation that will reunite the ‘BBC’ defence from Juventus of Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini.

The big changes are further ahead, where Verratti becomes a trequartista behind Immobile and Belotti.

This sort of system requires a more rugged midfield, so Riccardo Montolivo partners Daniele De Rossi.

Andrea Conti and Matteo Darmian are expected to take the flanks.

This means that Lorenzo Insigne, one of the on form players in Serie A right now, will be on the bench, but should get a starring role against Israel in the next World Cup qualifier on Tuesday September 5.

Italy (probable): Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Conti, De Rossi, Montolivo, Darmian; Verratti; Belotti, Immobile
