Today world football’s governing body released its Global Transfer Market Report, with data taken from the Transfer Matching System.

English clubs dominated spending, largely thanks to their television deals, with Italy firmly in the middle of the pack on most measures.

Italian clubs did come out on top in one of the metrics – percentage of transfer fees paid to intermediaries during incoming transfers.

The worldwide average was 7.7 per cent, with Italy up at 40.6 per cent.

Though the study is worldwide, so there will be many lower value transfers and clubs acting without intermediaries, this is still the highest in the world.

England, at 37.8 per cent, and Denmark with 32.4 per cent were the only other European countries in the top five for incoming transfers.

Italy placed second in terms of total intermediary fees at €76.5m, with English clubs once again coming out on top at €125.7m.
