The Azzurri must meet today’s deadline in putting forward an initial squad selection, from which the final 23 to head out to the tournament in Brazil will be taken.

Speculation continues over who will make the cut and who will not, taking into account the 42 names listed for April’s physical tests, and those internationals currently based abroad.

The Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that Giuseppe Rossi will be given a chance to prove his fitness with a spot in the squad, which may be to the detriment of Sunderland’s Emanuele Giaccherini.

On from this, the selected players will convene at Italy’s training headquarters at Coverciano on May 19, the day after the end of the Serie A season, where from Tuesday they will run through three days of training sessions.

After a further three days of rest the squad will join together once more from Sunday May 25 before four-and-a-half days of training sessions, ahead of a Friday afternoon flight out to London for Saturday’s friendly with the Republic of Ireland, hosted at Craven Cottage.

Assess Prandelli’s options ahead of today’s announcement with Football Italia’s World Cup Squad Selector.
