Bonucci was booked in the first half and will therefore be suspended for the next match against Israel on Tuesday night.

Spinazzola, who was picked to start despite not playing a single minute of football for Atalanta so far this season, picked up an injury during the final minutes, when all the substitutions had been completed.

Coach Giampiero Ventura is expected to call in some replacements ahead of the next World Cup qualifier.

Italy are in second place in Group G, but Albania have closed the gap to four points following their 2-0 victory over Liechtenstein.

That was Albania’s competitive debut under new Coach Christian Panucci.

Israel suffered a surprise 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Macedonia.
