Italy will hold a special training session today on a new ground built with funds confiscated from the mafia.

The squad travels to Reggio Calabria for a visit that was inspired by Gennaro Gattuso, who is from the area.

The Azzurri will train on the new Rizziconi ground, which was built on land confiscated from the ‘Ndrangheta (the Calabrian mafia).

“Some things help people who live in particular situations and I hope this is not an isolated gesture,” said Coach Cesare Prandelli.

“We all want to face the mafia and emphasize the land is moving on, winning with its resistance.

“In this case we can use a training ground for pure enjoyment and all youngsters must be free to make the most of the facilities.”

Italy will hold one training session at Rizziconi, then return to Rome to prepare for Tuesday’s friendly at the Stadio Olimpico against Uruguay.
