Italy have already sold out the 26,000 tickets for their 2022 World Cup play-off against North Macedonia, to be played at Palermo’s Stadio Barbera on March 24.

The winners of this game will go on to face either Portugal or Turkey in the play-off final, then the victors of that will enter the World Cup in Qatar in November.

The FIGC announced this evening that the event with North Macedonia is already sold out, with all 26,000 tickets snapped up just two hours after going on general sale.

At this moment, the stadium is still only allowed to open at 75 per cent capacity due to COVID restrictions.

If those regulations are loosened before March 24, then more tickets could still be made available.

This is the first time Italy have played in Palermo since a 9-1 win over Armenia in November 2019.

The Azzurri played North Macedonia in the qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup.

They won 3-2 in Skopje and drew the second leg 1-1 in Turin.

Italy’s record in Palermo is 13 wins, including the last six in a row, one draw and only one defeat.
