Italy will still reach the 2018 World Cup with the help of the San Siro crowd, according to former Inter player Evaristo Beccalossi.

The ex-Nerazzurri man was never capped at senior level by the Nazionale but played at the Giuseppe Meazza for six years between 1978 and 1984.

“Yesterday went badly, even though we might have deserved a draw,” Beccalossi said as he reacted to Italy’s 1-0 play-off defeat to Sweden.

“I think we need to be more fluid if we want to get to the World Cup.

“I’m expecting a full San Siro that takes this team in its hands. I don’t want to think it’s the game of their lives.

“I am convinced that with the help of the crowd we will make it.”
