The Maltese have been paired once more with the Azzurri and Bulgarians in a qualification campaign, for the 2016 European Championships, having all faced off in 2014 World Cup qualifying.

Whilst 131st in the world and having lost home and away in 2014 qualification to both nations, Muscat believes Malta can take hope going forward.

“Having experience of playing Italy and Bulgaria in our recent World Cup qualifiers could give us an advantage,” the 22-year-old has told UEFA’s official website in reaction today.

“Facing the might of Italy is always an experience to cherish.”
