Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano was pleased with the 1-1 draw against Inter at San Siro, as they are ‘laying the foundations for the future.’

Lucas Torreira had found the net for the second game running to put the Viola in front, but Denzel Dumfries equalised with a towering header.

“I am very happy with the performance, as we showed character and courage, which are what I asked for,” said Italiano in his press conference.

“We ran a few risks after the break, while we created many chances in the first half. It’s a pity about that opportunity in stoppages with Jonathan Ikone, but I congratulate the lads.

“I thought Ikone could’ve scored, but he said he didn’t have enough room to get around Samir Handanovic. We continue to create far more chances than the ones we manage to convert.

“We had studied Inter carefully and managed to limit their strengths, especially in midfield.”

Fiorentina continue to battle for a place in Europe, if not this season, then in the very near future.

“We are confident that if we keep playing this level of football, we will get results. We are laying the foundations for the future that the city of Florence, its fans and history deserve.”
