Former Fiorentina boss Paulo Sousa believes Serie A improved during his time in Italy.

The Portuguese Coach arrived at the Florence club in 2015 but an underwhelming second season in charge meant his contract was not renewed at the end of last season.

However, he believes that certain changes have taken place which will mean Italy’s top flight can go from strength to strength in the coming years.

However, he believes that certain changes have taken place which will mean Italy’s top flight can go from strength to strength in the coming years.

“What ideas has Italian football given me? From my point of view, comparing it to the Bundesliga, La Liga or the Premier League, Serie A has been improving for the last two years – both in terms of the level and the style of play,” Sousa commented during an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

“Foreign investors have come in, which permits big signings. There is also a very high level among my colleagues and a tactical richness.”

Sousa also praised the style of football played by Napoli, particularly in the Champions League, as showing Serie A in a positive light.

“The Italian League is getting back to being more attractive – Napoli are showing that in the Champions League.”

Sousa, who has also had spells at Basel, Maccabi Tel Aviv and LeicesterCityamong others, has been out of work since leaving the Artemio Franchi.
