Cagliari President Massimo Cellino is still in a prison cell being interrogated by police, but there are reports the Is Arenas stadium could be torn down.

Cellino was arrested along with the local Mayor on Friday morning in a dawn raid, accused of fraud in the construction of the venue.

It is claimed Cellino built the stadium over the summer using permits for a temporary structure, knowing full well he intended it to be a permanent one.

He is also accused of putting pressure on the council to give the go-ahead for the Is Arenas to be used and re-routing funds from a different council project.

The arrest warrant claims Cellino “is capable of any type of subterfuge in order to achieve his aims” and “has clear delinquent capabilities.”

Cellino begins his interrogation with police today, though there are already reports of dramatic action being taken.

La Nuova Sardegna newspaper suggests the Is Arenas could be torn down because it is an illegal structure that should not have been given planning permission so close to the Montelargius wetlands.

There had already been a protest from the WWF over the stadium disturbing the local flamingo population.
