Simone Inzaghi was “very proud” of his reshuffled Lazio side after a dominant performance at Udinese and explained the tactical switch.

The Biancocelesti ran riot at the Dacia Arena with a 3-0 win thanks to Ciro Immobile’s brace and Keita Balde Diao.

“It was a good Lazio performance, we played well, had fun, deserved the victory and I found it particularly satisfying considering we were missing so many players,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“It makes me proud to see those like Patric and Wesley Hoedt who hadn’t featured for a while and did so well. It means they’ve been training hard and were ready when called upon, so I am very proud of them.

“We had eight players born after 1993 and I have no problems using youth. Someone like Cristiano Lombardi is earning his place, I do not give gifts to anyone in the squad.”

Inzaghi had been using a 3-5-2 system in recent weeks, but changed tonight to 4-2-3-1.

“We had prepared the tactics with Immobile on Sven Kums, then alternating the midfielders coming forward. I saw what we prepared in training, a very good attitude and to be honest before the game I was very relaxed despite people talking about the number of players missing. I was right to have confidence in this squad.

“Aside from systems, what counts is the interpretation of the tactics. I saw Udinese play Fiorentina and made my choices also based on that. I thought the Friulani deserved more from that game than 2-2. Fiorentina struggled against them with three at the back, so I went back to four.

“The players didn’t complain when we opted to move to four on Wednesday and got down to work.”

Will Keita or Felipe Anderson have the more impressive career going forward?

“They are two great players, very young and have so much potential. I don’t have a crystal ball to see the future. I think both have a great future ahead of them, as long as they work hard every day to improve.”
