Inter coach Simone Inzaghi effectively confirms there’s no need to sign Paulo Dybala because with Romelu Lukaku he is ‘satisfied with the strike force at our disposal.’

The Nerazzurri had their first friendly of the 2022-23 campaign, beating Swiss outfit FC Lugano 4-1 thanks to a brace from Lautaro Martinez, plus goals from Danilo D’Ambrosio and Joaquin Correa.

“We only worked four days, so the team did well and I am happy with what I saw,” Inzaghi told Sportitalia.

It was the reunion of Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, the famous Lu-La partnership that helped them win the Scudetto a year ago.

“Romelu is a champion and knows Lautaro so well. We also saw Correa do well, while Edin Dzeko arrived ahead of schedule. We had the good fortune to bring Romelu back here and I am very satisfied.

“Using Correa as a trequartista behind the strikers is an option, even though it’s not our usual tactical system. With so many strikers at our disposal, I can change system from game to game.”

With this in mind, Inzaghi was asked if there is room for Dybala to join as a free agent as well.

“I am very satisfied with the strike force at our disposal. We were the most prolific team last season in Serie A and brought in Lukaku, so now we’ll wait and see what happens on the market in other areas of the team.

“I am constantly in contact with the directors, we must find a replacement for Andrea Ranocchia who can complete the defence.”

That target is Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer, although meeting the €50m asking price could be tricky.

It was an impressive debut in the Inter jersey for ex-Empoli midfielder Kristjan Asllani, who provided an assist.

“We wanted him, he showed in these first few days what great character he has, despite being so young. Marcelo Brozovic obviously is first choice, but Asllani is a valuable addition for the whole year.”

In other news, Simone’s big brother Pippo Inzaghi has been appointed as the new coach of Reggina.

“He’s enthusiastic, it’s a club with new owners with ambition for the future.”

7 thought on “Inzaghi snubs Dybala: ‘Satisfied with Inter strikers’”
  1. So neat to see the little Inzaghi brother now outshines the older, just the other way around from back in the playing days.

  2. Dybala will end up in some midtable team. His pricetag and reputation declined. I hope this will be a good lesson for the rest of those “special” players that put themselves before the club

  3. Inzaghi is a pretty average coach. If it’s Conte, inter would win the title at least 5 rounds in advance.

  4. Got a feeling, dybala will join, ac milan or napoli, he cant even join barca as re-signed ousama dembele & xavi says dybala overrated

  5. Bremer is needed more than Dybala now to strengthen back line … I feel Lukaku, Lautaro, Dzeko, Correa more than enough for front line … Inter looking forward to scudeto 2023

  6. no money to pay for his agent’s commission before Dzeko the grandpa got kicked out of the club.
