Simone Inzaghi claims Lazio’s Europa League match with Stade Rennais on Thursday is already a “Final” for his team.

Lazio opened in the Europa League with a surprise 2-1 defeat to Cluj, and Inzaghi admitted they could ill-afford to drop any more points so early on in the group stage.

“Tomorrow’s a Final for us. We come here from the defeat in Romania so it’s very important for us to get a result against a strong and organised team,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“Tomorrow’s a Final for us. We come here from the defeat in Romania so it’s very important for us to get a result against a strong and organised team,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“It’ll be a physical game so we need a great performance. We need to manage the ball well, in the knowledge they can be very tricky on the counter.

“Our group is very complicated, I said it from the start. Cluj were a team who had already played many games.

“Rennes and Celtic both have history on their side, but we have every chance to get out of this group and we absolutely want to do that.

“I wanted to replay the matches with Sevilla last year because we were outnumbered. Even with Cluj there’s great regret.

“We want to reverse the trend tomorrow and get back to winning. Good teams find goals from all over the pitch.

“I’m happy when our forwards score, but we must improve and look for goals in other positions.

“Regarding the new signings, I’m very satisfied. Lazzari slotted in right away and, even if he’s rotating with Marusic, I’m extremely happy.

“As for the others, they’re lads who have come in from other Leagues. They don’t know the language, but they’re learning very quickly. I’m very confident about them.”h

The Aquile have underperformed in the Europa League for some time, so will they start giving the tournament more priority?

“It’s not in our mentality. We’re always looking to do our best in the League, in Europe and the Coppa Italia.”
