Manuel Lazzari and Ciro Immobile got the goals at the Sardegna Arena to secure an opening win to the Serie A season.

“I think Lazio’s problems after the lockdown were that we didn’t have enough players to cover a game every couple of days. We still have injuries, but at least I do have some options now,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am happy to train these lads every day, as they love the jersey and the club, they work with such professionalism, and therefore I am not surprised by this victory in a very difficult match.”

At the same time that Simone was winning his game, brother Pippo was fighting back for Benevento’s 3-2 victory away to Sampdoria.

“We all have our own journey. What I do think is that the passion we both put into our work filters through to the players and they can sense how much we care.

“It was tricky for our parents trying to pick which games to watch! As a player, I might’ve got 100 goals in my career, Pippo had over 300, so the statistics speak for themselves on that score.

“Now Pippo is at a club that gives him the players he wants, he took Benevento back into Serie A and I think he’ll be here for a long time.”

Inzaghi was asked why he hasn’t signed a new contract with the Biancocelesti yet.

“I have not yet extended my contract with Lazio because our President is very busy at the moment, with Lazio, Salernitana, the transfer market and his business. When we get time, we’ll sit down and evaluate everything.”
