In a perfect repeat of their meeting at the Stadio Olimpico earlier this season, Stefan de Vrij opened the scoring only for Napoli to dominate the second half and win 4-1.

“In the second half, we simply never stepped on to the pitch,” confessed Inzaghi on Mediaset Premium.

“You are going to pay for that against a side like Napoli. It was a great first half, but conceding a goal right before the break affected us.

“We knew what we had to do, were organised and gave Napoli very little room to move in, always pressing Jorginho and attacking their full-backs. We should’ve maintained the same level of concentration in the second 45 minutes.

“We weren’t a team after the restart and quite rightly we lost the game. In the past we have always reacted to setbacks, but this time we didn’t and that I find unacceptable.

“In my tenure here, we’d never previously lost three in a row. It’s also the first time in two-and-a-half years that we have got an entire half completely wrong. It’s something we must reflect on.

“This is the third consecutive defeat, we will analyse the errors so that we can get straight back on track from Thursday in the Europa League.”
