Lazio Coach Simone Inzaghi felt it “incredible” that VAR officials missed Patrick Cutrone’s handball goal in a 2-1 Milan win. “We deserved a draw.”

The 2-1 result at San Siro was decided by Cutrone’s opener and Jack Bonaventura, after a temporary Adam Marusic equaliser.

“The first half could probably have been played better, but on 1-1 we hit the crossbar with Luis Alberto and in the second did more than enough to deserve a draw,” Inzaghi told Mediaset Premium.

Milan did well to take their chances and play the way they needed to. We have regrets, because we had several scoring opportunities and dominated the second half, despite playing another game midweek.”

Inzaghi has protested about VAR before, but in this case Cutrone’s opening goal clearly came off his arm and never touched his head, yet it was not seen by the officials.

“It’s incredible. Honestly, I hadn’t noticed. They’ll have to explain this to us too. A free kick deflected in by an arm… They had told me on the touchline and I did ask Cutrone at the final whistle, he said it was deflected, but it clearly wasn’t. I hadn’t seen just how obvious it was…

“It’s a shame, yet again we have to deal with this situation. The images speak for themselves, I don’t have anything to add. I saw a very good performance in the second half and one that fully deserved a point, but this is football and you need to put the ball in the net. Milan did and we didn’t.”
