Simone Inzaghi had a three-hour strategy summit with Inter President Steven Zhang today, but it’s reported they did not discuss a new contract for the coach.

He had been on the verge of dismissal a couple of months ago, but turned it all around by winning the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana, then reaching the Champions League Final.

It was a narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in Istanbul and today Inzaghi was at the club headquarters for a meeting with President Zhang that lasted three hours.

According to initial reports on Sky Sport Italia, they did not broach the subject of a contract extension, as Inzaghi is still tied to the club until June 2024.

He was warned that although the Champions League progress has helped boost the club coffers, Inter will again have to keep the purse strings tight and balance the budget.

Calcio e Finanza report that Inter will end the 2022-23 season with losses of €80m, which is still a vast improvement from last year’s €140m.
