Reports suggest that an unnamed investment fund have been in close contact with Torino president Urbano Cairo in negotiations to buy the club.

TMW details how talks between the fund – likely based in the United States – and the Granata president have been ongoing for months now but have hit a deadlock in recent weeks.

During Cairo’s visit to New York in June – somewhere he hadn’t been for two decades – he was approached the representative of a group of investors who were strongly interested in purchasing a majority stake in Torino. This was the starting point for months of negotiations.

The Italian businessman, however, has never been particularly keen on the idea of selling the club, which he bought 18 years ago and has made a major part of his life. At this stage, talks have now stalled.

Whilst no concrete figures have emerged, indications suggest that the club would be worth around €200m total, taking into account the playing squad, sources of revenue and just over €50m in television rights.

Cario, during his trip to the US, discussed a possible sale of Torino, seeming confident that one wouldn’t take place one.

“I believe that us with Torino in the last 11 years have given a nice stabilisation to a great football club with an incredible history, despite not having won anything.

“This I believe has been appreciated by the vast majority of fans, although there may be those who disagree.

“There may also be those who want there to be a sale, but I haven’t thought about it at all, and I haven’t looked for anyone.”
