Inter striker Rey Manaj apologised to Albania Coach Gianni De Biasi after criticising him on social media.
Over the last few days, Manaj was involved in controversy when he hit back at reports he’d pestered De Biasi with messages begging to be let into the Albania squad for Euro 2016.
“I’ve seen a lot of articles that have really annoyed me, things that are not true said by people who represent the senior national team,” he wrote on Facebook, later removing the post.
“The person who said I write to him every weekend to show him how long I’ve played is just lying. I never earned anything by being a licker or begging to anybody. I always earned everything with sweat and sincerity.
“So, seeing as Gianni De Biasi claims I write to him every weekend, let him show the world these supposed messages. I wrote to him only once after the game with Serbia, as before then I didn’t even have his number.”
However, Manaj wrote a different message as an apology.
“I did not verify what I’d been told, but I won’t make a similar mistake. I want to apologise to the Coach. I am young and impulsive, but also intelligent: I reflected and realised that I was wrong.
“I will not make this error again. I will directly call the Coach and speak to him personally. I hope to close this matter quickly, as it was down to a misunderstanding with the media and journalists.”
