Gianfranco Zola is now the main contender with Marcelino for the Inter job, but CEO Michael Bolingbroke could be axed.

The confusion continues to reign supreme at San Siro following the dismissal of Coach Frank de Boer – just four days after President Erick Thohir and CEO Bolingbroke publicly backed the Dutchman.

Representatives from Chinese owners Suning Group flew in on Friday and had meetings with both Pioli and Marcelino, but directors Piero Ausilio, Giovanni Gardini, Vice-President Javier Zanetti and Bolingbroke were not included.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Bolingbroke is on vacation and is so far outside the loop now that Suning are prepared to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

Former Manchester United chief Bolingbroke was brought in by Thohir, who sold the majority of his Inter shares to Suning last season.

This split is also reflected in the search for a Coach, as Ausilio and Gardini were left out of meetings with Pioli and Marcelino yesterday.

However, Mediaset Premium claims they were present at today’s encounter with Zola.

The former Parma and Chelsea star has been pushed forward as an alternative to Pioli, seeing as Suning are not convinced by the ex-Lazio boss.

The battle now seems to be between Zola, who has more international credentials than Pioli, and ex-Villarreal Coach Marcelino.

There is also the possibility of combining the two, as Marcelino could require an Italian assistant manager, who could potentially be Zola.

Another meeting with Marcelino is planned for this afternoon.
