Inter have no intention of setting up a new deal for Romelu Lukaku with Chelsea and have already started lining up potential replacements, reports detail.

The 29-year-old Belgian striker’s return has not gone to plan, and he’s only scored three goals in 18 Serie A appearances this season, two of which came from the penalty spot. His last non-penalty goal in the league came in the season opener against Lecce back in August.

This season, Inter have managed to score just 48 goals in 30 Serie A games. After the same amount of league games last season, Simone Inzaghi’s side had netted 63 goals, a sign of their attacking decline this campaign.

As detailed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter will send Lukaku back to Chelsea in the summer and will not negotiate a new deal for him, pushing them to find a new striker.

The Nerazzurri have no shortage of ideas, interested in Roberto Firmino and Marcus Thuram, who’ll both be free agents in the summer.

Inter’s top target for now is breakout Italy striker Mateo Retegui, who would cost around €18m. Also liked is Lens’ Lois Openda, who has scored 15 goals in Ligue 1 this season.
