Antonio Conte was convinced Federico La Penna would award a spot-kick to Inter as he reportedly told Romelu Lukaku: ‘No worries, it’s a penalty’, before the VAR check.

Nicolas Nkoulou fouled Achraf Hakimi inside Inter’s box but the referee had initially stopped the action for an off-side of the former Borussia Dortmund winger.

After a VAR check, however, it emerged the Torino defender tried to control the ball before he fouled the Inter player who, therefore, could not be off side.

According to DAZN, Inter coach Antonio Conte was sure La Penna would give a penalty to Inter even before the referee had the VAR check.

“He never doubted about the penalty, he noticed Hakimi was not offside and shouted it to his players and to the referees,” the pitch reporter said.

“He also told Lukaku: ‘No worries, be calm, it’s a penalty’."

The former Manchester United striker eventually converted the penalty and assisted Lautaro Martinez for Inter’s fourth.
