Inter are planning to say goodbye to Romelu Lukaku at the end of the season in order to make space for soon-to-be free agent Marcus Thuram, reports detail.

The 25-year-old French forward’s current contract with Borussia Monchengladbach expires in June and their director Roland Virkus confirmed that he wouldn’t be penning a new deal.

Inter, Barcelona, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are some of the favourites for Thuram’s signature in the summer, and the Nerazzurri are serious about the situation.

As detailed by Calciomercato.com, Inter are planning to send Lukaku back to Chelsea in the summer after his unconvincing and expensive return on loan. Costing almost €20m total between the loan fee and wages, the Belgian striker has only managed two goals in 11 Serie A games.

The Nerazzurri want to send Lukaku back to West London so they pick up Thuram on a free transfer. La Gazzetta dello Sport recently detailed how the club offered a €5m net per season deal to the French striker in January, a proposal that’s still on the table.

  1. If Inter have any sense, they’ll send Lukaku back and get Thuram on a free. He may not be the best around, but he’d be a high quality sub and not cost a fortune like Lukaku in fees and wages.
Serie A needs to stop wasting money on epl cast-offs.
