The 19-year-old creative midfielder joined in January 2013, but has moved down the pecking order behind Fredy Guarin and Ricky Alvarez.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Kovacic could consider a loan spell next month so that he can prove himself with regular playing time.

He particularly needs to make an impression and maintain fitness ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Kovacic arrived from Dinamo Zagreb for approximately £10m just under a year ago and is considered one of the most promising talents in Croatian football.

He has managed only 566 minutes of football for Inter this season in 14 different appearances.
