Inter forward Marcus Thuram discussed his admiration for Thierry Henry and the importance of representing the France national team.
The 26-year-old joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer in the summer after his contract expired with Borussia Monchengladbach. He penned a five-year contract worth around €6m net per season, making him one of the highest earners at the club.
Thuram has hit the ground running since joining Inter, scoring four goals and providing eight assists in his first 12 Serie A matches. He also scored the decisive goal in the Champions League win over Benfica last month.
The French striker has started to form a formidable partnership with Lautaro Martinez, looking to be the perfect addition to Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri squad. The club currently sit top of the league table after 12 games, holding a two-point lead over rivals Juventus.
Speaking on the France national team podcast via TMW, Thuram first discussed his admiration for Henry.
“He is a reference point, for how he played but also for his behaviour. He is the example of what Clairefontaine tries to create, for me he is the perfect testimonial. I’ve known Henry well since I was a kid, like my father he means a lot to me. I consider him a bit like my uncle.”
The 26-year-old striker remembered his early memories of the France national team.
“The national team has become an obsession for me since every morning, on the way to school, I passed the first team players. I came from an American school and was used to different timetables than those respected there.
“I remember that the first time I visited the sports centre, I noticed a ferocious increase in the level compared to what I used to live with, they were all very strong, monsters.
“On the pitch there was a not-so-tall North African boy who played alone and made incredible checks without looking at the ball, it was Amine Harit.”
Finally, Thuram reflected on his first day at Clairefontaine and the relationships formed.
“Then I remember that on the first day there was Allan Saint-Maximin, Christopher Nkunku, Florian Ayé and others…
“As we started to get to know each other we understood that we would spend a lot of time together, we would become like a family.
“I was responsible for the ‘good mood’, then the teammates knew they could talk to me if they had any problems.”
