Inter technical director Marco Branca has fuelled talk that his club are interested in the Catania pair of Alejandro Gomez and Pablo Barrientos.

“Gomez and Barrientos are certainly two extraordinary players and they are not going unobserved,” Branca told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We are talking with the Catania directors and you’ll soon know something. If anything happens then it will take place within the next seven or 10 days.

“But what I want to underline at this moment is the excellent relationship that Inter and Catania have – that is the most important thing.”

Barrientos is a 28-year-old Argentine midfielder who scored five goals in 31 Serie A games during the last campaign.

Gomez, meanwhile, is a 25-year-old forward who is also wanted by Atletico Madrid after his eight strikes in 36 matches.

Inter are set to rebuild this summer after the club hired Walter Mazzarri as their new boss following their ninth-placed finish in Serie A.
