The striker has been out of action since February 13, as the day he was suddenly stripped of the captaincy, he also began to feel pain in his knee.

Despite medical staff giving the all-clear for his return to training, Icardi is still not working with his teammates.

According to multiple sources, including Sky Sport Italia and news agency Ansa, director general Marotta met with Icardi’s lawyer Paolo Nicoletti today and there was progress.

Although there is still no timeframe for the player’s return to the field, the two parties are said to be more optimistic about the situation.

Coach Luciano Spalletti blew the lid off any remaining doubts about the timing of this injury with his comments in last night’s Press conference.

“The truth is that we asked Mauro if he felt like resuming training,” said Spalletti in his Press conference.

“The doctor said that in his view the necessary period for treatment had terminated. He replied: ‘No, I still feel pain. I’ll tell you when I feel ready to play.’

“I acknowledged what he said and went back home. The director (Beppe Marotta) will tell you the rest.”
