Inter Coach Stefano Pioli sees tomorrow’s Lazio match as an opportunity to “gnaw away” some of the gap to third place.

The Biancocelesti are currently in fourth-place, level with Napoli in third, while the Beneamata lie seven points behind in the race for Champions League football.

“We’re facing a rival that’s doing well,” Pioli said in his pre-match Press conference.

“They’re in front of us in the table and every game that allows us to gnaw away some of those points will always be important to us.

“There will be other big games, but we want to do well.

“Are Lazio here to stay? Yes, I think so because they’re not in Europe and history tells us that they alternate a good year with one which is less so. They’ll be a tough opponent.

“Right now we don’t care about beautiful football, but about the table and results, which are the only things that count right now.”

This is the Nerazzurri’s last match before the winter break, and Pioli was asked if there will be any new signings for the second half of the season.

“Tomorrow’s match is too important for us to talk about anything else. We have clear ideas of what we want to do.

“We’ll have to see if Financial Fair Play allows us to operate, but we’re ready for the transfer market.”
