Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini told Inter they’ll need to pay €17m for Uruguay striker Abel Hernandez.

The 23-year-old was decisive in helping Palermo to promotion from Serie B this season, scoring 14 goals in 28 games, and is now hoping to make his mark at the World Cup.

He has been at the Sicilian club since 2009, but is reportedly at the centre of a €15m transfer swoop by Inter this summer.

“If Inter want Hernandez, they need to first show me they’ve got the money to buy him,” Zamparini told Radio 2.

“I won’t say how much I am asking for, as transfers are worked on quietly, but I will point out that €10m-€15m isn’t enough.

“His price-tag has nothing to do with whether he plays as a first choice for Uruguay at the World Cup. Javier Pastore wasn’t a starter for Argentina, yet Paris Saint-Germain gave me €42m for him.

“Let’s just say that for €17m you can sell a young player…”

There is one other problem for Palermo, as they owe 45 per cent of any transfer fee to his old club Penarol.
