The former Manchester City boss has reportedly penned a two-and-a-half-year deal, worth €4m net plus bonuses a season, to replace the sacked Walter Mazzarri at San Siro.

Whilst the 49-year-old is believed to be in the process of assembling his backroom staff, ahead of being presented to the media tomorrow, SportMediaset have looked to explain the particular timing to Inter’s activity.

They report that President Erick Thohir was concerned about increasing discontent from Inter supporters and subsequently held a meeting with the club's board on Tuesday to announce his intention to replace Mazzarri, if the right replacement was found.

Developments were not expected before next week's Derby della Madonnina, but due to apparent increasing interest from PSG in Mancini – to potentially replace Laurent Blanc – the Nerazzurri were keen to accelerate talks.

After reportedly being given the go-ahead by Mancini himself yesterday, directors Marco Fassone and Michael Bolingbroke quickly agreed terms with his representative.

It is reported also that Massimo Moratti was not aware of the decision to return to the Coach that led the team from 2004 to 2008.
