The Belgium international had been close to an agreement with President Aurelio De Laurentiis, but the lockdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic slowed negotiations down.

According to Sport Mediaset, Mertens is more and more pushing towards the exit when his contract expires this summer.

Although Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are known to be interested, Mertens would prefer to remain in Italy and Inter are offering the best terms.

It’s reported the Nerazzurri proposed a two-year contract worth €6m per season, plus an option for a third year.

This would give him approximately €1m more than the wages Napoli are prepared to pay, along with extra cash from freeing up his image rights.
