The Nerazzurri sold the Cameroon international to Russian club Anzhi last summer, while the midfielder was allowed to join Paris Saint-Germain in January.

“From a technical point of view not only myself, but also the President and everyone at Inter would have made different choices,” he told Sky Sport Italia when questioned about the sales.

“However, if we made the decisions that we did then it’s because we couldn’t do any differently…”

“We’re in opposite situations compared to last year,” Branca added. “During the first years of my fantastic adventure with Inter, the situation was similar, then we turned it around.

“That’s what happens in sport.”

Inter are set to make changes again in the summer, with youth team boss Andrea Stramaccioni suggested as a possible replacement for Claudio Ranieri after Inter’s NextGen Series success.

“Let's leave Stramaccioni alone,” Branca replied. “I think he’s happy to be here with us and we’re happy with him, but let’s leave him in peace.

“This NextGen victory means a lot. It’s a hugely satisfying result for the club, the President, the lads and the Coach, who is in his first year and who didn't get off to a good start in this competition.

“Since then he’s done a great job of creating the Inter spirit and he’s shown a lot of character. My congratulations go to him.”
