The Catalans were first linked with the Italy international in January, and his profile as a diminutive deep-lying playmaker would have ticked boxes.

Nonetheless, he is set to join Inter on an initial €5m loan with a €22-25m option to buy next summer, with Primavera striker Edoardo Vergani to move the other way.

He is also understood to have agreed a five-year contract worth around €1.8m a season.
