The Argentine’s current deal was set to expire this month, but he has been offered a 12-month extension.

New Nerazzurro boss Walter Mazzarri considers the 35-year-old as a key element to his three-man defence.

The South American endured an injury-hit campaign at San Siro this past term, seeing as he appeared in just 22 games. He scored one goal.

Inter are set to make the renewal official in the next few days. Samuel, signed from Real Madrid in 2005 for €16m, is currently earning €2m a campaign.
