Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne has been forced to pull out of the Italy squad with a knee injury.
It emerged last night that the playmaker had sat out a training session, having picked up a knock in the 4-0 win at Milan on Sunday, and today the player has left Coverciano.
“Insigne has gone home,” a statement from the FIGC confirmed.
“The player – who has been resting since yesterday as a precaution after a knock to his right knee in the match between Milan and Napoli – had improved, but was still suffering with pain in the joint.
“Insigne has today left Coverciano, and will return to his club for treatment.”
The news will come as a blow for CT Antonio Conte, who had been expected to start the 24-year-old against Azerbaijan following five goals and three assists in seven Serie A games.
