Lorenzo Insigne says he’s living a dream after going from a San Paolo ball-boy to a crowd favourite at Napoli.

The local lad returned to his parent club this summer after loan spells at Foggia and then Pescara under the guidance of Zdenek Zeman.

“I’m living a dream,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport. “I was a ball-boy here, now I am playing for the first team.

“Every kid would want such a thing and I’m happy.”

Insigne isn’t assured of a starting shirt in Naples, but he’s already done enough this season to win his first full cap for Italy.

“Boss Walter Mazzarri was clear with me from the start,” he added. “He said that I would be the first choice behind the three champions of Edinson Cavani, Marek Hamsik and Goran Pandev. And that is how it has been.

“I did a lot in pre-season training and I think I earned my place in the Napoli squad.”

The attacker is currently on international duty with the Under-21 side as they look to qualify for Euro 2013.
